{"id":1268,"date":"2014-11-10T11:18:47","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T11:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/preview.aquajet.se\/?post_type=jobreport&amp;p=1268"},"modified":"2014-11-10T11:18:47","modified_gmt":"2014-11-10T11:18:47","slug":"rotolance-2500-on-record-highway-project","status":"publish","type":"jobreport","link":"https:\/\/aquajet.se\/de\/jobreport\/rotolance-2500-on-record-highway-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotolance 2500 on record highway project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Swiss Hydrodemolition specialist contractor, Walo Hydrodynamik removes more than 25,000m\u00b2 of\u00a0concrete deck on the Viaduc de Chillon using a combination of a newly delivered Rotolance 2500 and an Aquacutter 710 VE evolution from Aquajet Systems AB in a record contract for the contractor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taking delivery of the latest Rotolance 2500 ultra high water pressure accessory\u00a0in Switzerland, Zurich-based specialist\u00a0Hydrodemolition contractor, Walo Hydrodynamik is completing the removal of more than 25,000 m\u00b2 of concrete decking on the Viaduc de\u00a0Chillon, above Lake Geneva.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>SPECTACULAR MOTORWAY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Against the backdrop of the foothills to the Swiss Alps and Lake Geneva, the Viaduct was completed in 1969 to provide, it is\u00a0claimed, one of the most spectacular Swiss motorway structures.<br \/>\nIt comprises two structures 12 m (39 ft) wide carrying the east and west bound lanes of the Swiss A9 autoroute. Both viaducts span a total of 2150 m (7050 ft) at a height of 100 m (330 ft) above the lake and staggered several metres in height.<br \/>\nThe viaduct experiences traffic flows of up to 7300 vehicles at peak times and 50,000 a year. Investigations in 2013 found that the\u00a0concrete decks were affected with Alkali\u00a0Aggregate Reaction (AAR) with the alpine aggregates used being badly corroded.<br \/>\nWalo was awarded the contract to remove 3 \u2013 5mm depth of the concrete deck on the east-bound lanes in Phase 1.<br \/>\nThe deck will then be paved with a fibre \u2013 reinforced, ultra high performance special concrete developed by Holcim to strengthen the deck and contain the AAR.<\/p>\n<p>Walo Bertschinger is a leading Swiss contractor approaching its 100th anniversary and had\u00a0won Hydrodemolition contracts in the past but sub contracted the works. By\u00a02013 recognising the demand, set up its own in-house division, Walo Hydrodynamik; headed\u00a0by Bruno Zuberb\u00fchler with more than 20 years\u00a0experience of hand lance, water jet and\u00a0Hydrodemolition techniques.<\/p>\n<p>The new division quickly ordered its second hydrodemolition robot, an Aquacutter 710 VE evolution in November 2013 through local distributer At\u00fcmat AG.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1270\" src=\"https:\/\/aquajet.se\/bed\/uploads\/2014\/11\/jobreport_walo_2.jpg\" alt=\"Jobreport Walo - Aqua cutter 710V\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aquajet.se\/bed\/uploads\/2014\/11\/jobreport_walo_2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/aquajet.se\/bed\/uploads\/2014\/11\/jobreport_walo_2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aquajet.se\/bed\/uploads\/2014\/11\/jobreport_walo_2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aquajet.se\/bed\/uploads\/2014\/11\/jobreport_walo_2-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>ROTOLANCE 2500<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThis was really based on my previous\u00a0experience in the company before joining\u00a0Walo where we had four Aqua Cutters; it is, in my opinion, by far the best Hydrodemolition machine.\u201d<br \/>\nEarlier this year Walo also took delivery of the latest Rotolance 2500 in Switzerland ready for the Viaduct project Phase 1 together with a 4m long mast extension.<\/p>\n<p>Introduced by Aquajet Systems, the latest Rotolance 2500 is a Hydrodemolition tool for fast concrete removal on roads, bridges, airports, harbours, and water reservoirs, etc.<br \/>\nIt provides a cost effective, fast and also\u00a0environmentally safe process for\u00a0applications that successfully competes with\u00a0other competitive tools. Material removal\u00a0by waterjets makes a more controllable\u00a0roughness to create a better bonding surface.<\/p>\n<p>Possible operator injuries, including \u2018white\u00a0finger\u2019 \u2013 caused by hand-held manually\u00a0operated equipment, are also eliminated with the vibration-free tool. Dust pollution is also eliminated. \u201cThe unit is operating on-site at 2000 bar and 120 litre\/minute to achieve rates of 100 m\u00b2 \/hour\u201d, confirmed Bruno.<\/p>\n<p>With the Rotolance traversing along the 4m long extension beam, it is programmed to automatically advance 16 cm each cycle as the unit reaches the end of the beam. In addition to removing the pavement to a depth of 3mm, it is also preparing five 2mm deep channels \u2013 two 20 cm wide and three 25 cm wide \u2013 across the deck to consolidate the new concrete to form a stronger bond over the four subsequent concrete pours.<\/p>\n<p>Pours are scheduled to begin in July and expected to be completed in three months.<br \/>\nWork on Phase 2, also awarded to Walo for the west bound viaduct, will begin next year in a repeat operation to remove 25,000 m\u00b2.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>NEXT JOB<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On completion of Phase 1 the AQUA CUTTER and Rotolance combination will be transferred to its next \u2018job\u2019 on the E8 highway at Interlaken to remove 5000 m\u00b2 of concrete pavement to a depth of 5 mm and a further 5000 m\u00b2 on the tunnel walls to a depth of 3 mm.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Rotolance 2500 is the perfect tool for\u00a0deck removal where the depth is between 0 \u2013 5 mm and over very large areas,\u201dsaid Bruno.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00fcmat AG is one of Aquajet Systems\u00a0oldest dealers and has been responsible for promoting Hydrodemolition technology across Switzerland where it is widely acclaimed. According to Alessandro Campa, director of At\u00fcmat, the technique is set to grow even further in Switzerland as the country tries to keep its infrastructure abreast of the ever increasing population.<br \/>\n\u201cHighways, for example, were built with 2-lanes for a 40 years life span but this has been overtaken by the population growth.
